Story of the Blue Chocolate

Fazer Blue was introduced as early as 1922 and Karl Fazer’s signature in gold and the wrapping’s blue colour has been this milk chocolate’s distinguishing mark ever since. But the success story of the popular milk chocolate was started by pure chance. This is the story of Fazer Blue.

Sven Fazer, son of Karl Fazer, had a business acquaintance whose son-in-law was ill. With the aid of his contacts Sven Fazer arranged for the son-in-law to receive the care he required. As a reward Sven Fazer received a very special, secret Swiss chocolate recipe. It is this recipe that Fazer still uses in the production of Fazer Blue.

The blue colour was an important symbol for Karl Fazer, reflecting Finland’s many lakes and the country’s independence. Today, this blue colour is equally important for the product. In the spring of 2001 Fazer Blue became Finland’s first registered colour trademark. This means that Fazer in Finland has the sole right to sell chocolate products in the well-known blue wrapping. The word blue does not even need to be mentioned.  Fazer Blue is currently Finland’s most esteemed brand.
